ATMEL automotive MCU group want to develop automotive business in China. The growth potential is very large and we are convlnced that this is the right time to penetrate this market. The China automotive industry is currently moving from a joint venture with foregin company model to a local company model.
Local Chinese OEMs (car market) are now actively developing their own brands of car. They want to get the same features than foreign cars like for example window life with anti-pinch, sunroof, led lighting.
However they don't have the experience and application knowledge of the foregin companies. So they would like to acquire it very fast to be independent. They also conslder exportign later on to EU and US. So they will have to comply with EU and US standard.
Due to that situation, the local market is not the same than in EU and US and local OEM and TIER1 are not looking for IC but for a total solution schematic, printed circuit board, IC, software, support.
Some of our competitors have already setup partnership with locals by setting common application development lab.
We can not start immediately at the same level. However, we have already acquired, in the specific automotive application group located in Nantes, significant knowledge on some selected applications: i.e. Window lift, power seats,LED lighting. We have already started to use that knowledge and available material to successfully setup partnership with some local Tier1 suppliers.
Our current limitation is that expertise is far away from China and not speaking Chinese language. So the communication is not very easy and misunderstanding can occur very easily. Our partners are also scared to be left alone in the middle of their project and they would like to have a day-to-day technical spport during their own development.
In order to overcome that situation, we would like to have 2 automotive application enginers located in Shanghai as fast as possible.
They responsibility of these 2 engineers will be:
To be trained at a very low level of details on existing applications developed in France
To be able to achieve technical presentation and training at customer sites(using material prepared by us-they will be fully supported by us and they will have a backup of at least 4 knowledgeable automotive application engineers)
To be able to discuss customer application spec in the selected application domains and to transfer the detailed information to the team in Nantes and to make proposal for potential solutions using ATMEL components
To be able to develop locally a prototype of the final solution with the customer- that will include schematic entry, poboard design, board assembly, software development and debug and validation with the customer (They will be trained on the selected set of tools to be used)
To be able to define and build reference designs based on inputs coming from the Nantes team and with full support by the Nantes team
They will not have any "sales" responsibility-they will be only technical support
The profile of these 2 engineers should be as follow:
Fluent in English (not easy but mandatory to avoid any misunderstanding and wrong transfer of information from us to the customer)
Highly technical with a wide knowledge scope including but not limited to microcontroller based design , C software development, integration, validation in application, analysis of customer spec and transfer to actual design.
Able to do formal technical presentation and training session at customer sites
One could be more embedded software oriented and the other hardware oriented. However they have to be open to develop their skill in order to be able to cover both areas. This will be a security for us as long as we have only a limited resource level and the turnover is too big. To bring these application resources up to speed will require a significant effort of training from my team and I don't want to redo it very 3 to 6 months.
We would like to get a pre-selection of potemtial candidates achieved by local Shanghai office people and then, I will validate the final choice by a face to face interview.

Experience:
Minimum 4 years technical experience
