Job Summary:
Participates in and monitors panel design, peripheral design, and component selection; PLC and other programming, as required. Provides leadership and input regarding EOL electrical design and software standards. Supports startup of machines on the floor and in the field. Assists in interpretation and coordination of customer specifications and requests. Provides technical mentoring for EOL electrical engineering staff.
Job Specifications:
BSEE is strongly preferred. Ideal candidate will possess a minimum of ten years experience in design and implementation of industrial automation equipment controls and software as well as experience supervising a group of engineers or leading major projects. Competency in a variety of PLC brands is desirable especially Allen Bradley PLC’s. Robotics experience desired. Experience with machine testing, installation, and startup. Self-starter and self-motivated individual who understands the importance of being a team player to achieve organizational goals. Must be willing and available to travel up to 10% of the time, including overseas travel (20% for first year). Is thoughtful and respectful of others. Can work effectively under pressure and maintains a positive attitude. Possess leadership skills. Solid experience in the programming of serial and network communication interfaces (RS 232/422, Ethernet).Experience with Unix, and Windows programming. Object oriented programming experience. Should be PC literate in Microsoft Windows 95 or NT, Word, Excel. AutoCAD proficiency. Has a good understanding of mechanisms and mechanical components.
Primary skills and responsibilities: (Others may be assigned)
1. Designs machine controls using state of the art components
2. Determines customer requirements based on input from sales documents and customer specifications
3. Writes and debugs PLC control logic to industry standards
4. Oversees implementation of “GM Standard PLC Code” for all current PLC applications – includes PLC 2, PLC 5, and Control Logix processors
5. Troubleshoots multiprocessor software and hardware systems in the lab and in the field
6. Communicates with BEP Software Engineers, customers and the BEP project managers to define requirements and resolve functionality conflicts
7. Ability to work with Programmers of real-time/multitasking control software in C/C++, GML, Cimplicity and others, as well as troubleshooting of hardware and software issues
8. Oversees preliminary documentation of code provided to technical writers for our manuals
9. Supports new equipment and equipment-installed base by providing on-line support or on-location support as needed
10. Assist manufacturing, Field Service Engineer(s) and Project Managers in the setup and startup of new systems
