AVL List GmbH was founded in 1948. It is the world's largest privately owned and independent company for the development of powertrain systems with internal combustion engines as well as Engine Instrumentation and Test Systems. In addition, this company develops and markets the simulation methods, which are necessary for the development work. The company is a competent partner to the engine and automotive industry. In order to be able to respond to Chinese needs in the engine and automotive business from a stronger base, it has been speeding up its business development in China. Today AVL China consists of sale offices throughout China and a technical center formally known as AVL List Technical Center (Shanghai) Co., Ltd., based at Jingqiao area. The main activity of the new Technical Center is the design, simulation and development of both petrol and diesel engines used in all forms of transport and industrial applications. The new Technical Center not only implements its own projects, but also sees itself as a bridge between the headquarters in Graz and business partners in China.
