Duties and Responsibilities
Power Electronics & Motor Drive Engineer/Specialist is responsible for development and design of power electronics control for electric traction motors and power electronics targeted at hybrid and electric vehicle applications. Work involves strong analysis and problem solving skills. Work tasks, objectives and assignment directions are provided by management but the ability to multi-task and work well in a self directed environment are required. Generate technical solutions for complex controls of surface mounted and interior permanent magnet machines, induction machines, and other machine technologies. Generate technical solutions for complex digital controls. Perform simulation and analyses of electric drive components and subsystems. Plan and perform testing, development and calibration in dynamometer facility. Coordinate engineering activities with cross functional teams. Support engineering design development to utilize advances in digital controls. Work with design engineers and manufacturing staff to review new designs and provide succinct input for machine design improvements. Interface with vehicle system customers. Write and evaluate technical reports and proposals.
Minimum Skill Requirements
- Ability to Develop and validate motor control algorithm in a real-time embedded environment.
- 2+ years automotive engineering experience is preferred. Transmission and engine control or CAN-bus experience is a plus.
- Solidly master dq0 coordinate system and its application on PM, induction or synchronous machines.
- 3+ years motor drives & power electronics controls experience. Expertise on control of converters, choppers, inverters, phase controllers, MOSFET's and IGBT's is preferred
- Specialized knowledge in PWM, space vector and six-step control.
- Experience in modeling/simulation using tools such as Matlab-Simulink, Sabre, Pspice or Ansoft Simplorer etc.
- Experience in C/C++ software development and/or control model auto-coding
- Lab view (or other measurement software) for motor drive system validation test.
- Ability to work with a diverse team supporting component development and subsystem and vehicle integration.
- Skillful knowledge in MS Office (Word, Excel and Power Point).
- Strong oral and written communication skills in English to accurately communicate cross-functionally.
- Strong interpersonal skills to work effectively with a team and provide motivation to co-workers.
- Ph.D. (or experienced Master/Bachelor) Degree in Engineering.
